• Problems with hypermedia:
  • Increase in complexity
  • Users may feel isolated or unsupported (education)
  • Different abilities for navigation
  • Previous knowledge of users varies
  • Users may get lost "lost in hyperspace"
  • May fail to get an overview of the information presented
• Adaptive systems adapt content, structure, presentation to each individual user's characteristics and behaviour.
• Adaptive systems:
  1. Use hypermedia
  2. Have a user model
  3. Have an adaptive mechanism
• Two types of adaptation:
  1. Adaptability:: Allows users to modify the content, presentation and navigation.
  2. Adaptivity:: System adapts automatically to the user behaviour by recording user behaviour or perhaps questionnaires.
• Adaptive systems seek to enhance the mode of delivery and increase flexibility based on the needs of users.
