I had to switch off the internal firewall in my Linksys ADSL router as it was dropping ICMP do not fragment packets so path MTU discovery wasn't working. This meant I couldn't receive large emails. See: this post Unfortunately this also then turned my router into an open recursive DNS server so I have had to switch the firewall back on. Time to get a new router I think...
