Printing from Windows XP to Linux

Do you want to be able to share your printer from Linux so your Windows XP machines can print to it? XP's IPP support makes this easy.

  1. In Linux, set up a generic raw print queue
  2. Share the printer
  3. In Windows, add the printer by selecting "Connect to a printer on the internet"
  4. Enter the URL as http://<HostIP>:631/printers/<RawPrintQueueName>

  5. Select the printer driver for this printer as you would for a locally connected printer
  6. You will probably need to open TCP port 631 in your Linux firewall
